Edgy's up on his feet and getting better

The New Year has brought some very good news from Salford Royal (Hope Hospital) in that Matt Edgington is up on his feet, with help, and is taking on fluids and food through normal means.  Edgy is doing well ....

In his latest web forum posting, father John posted the following ....

Can I take this opportunity to wish all of you a prosperous safe and Happy New Year.

I and my family are looking forward to leaving 2009 and praying that our son’s recovery will continue at the same rate that we have had so far. Matthew has astonished all of us by his progress and he is now walking with help as he is still unsteady and disorientated. We know that he can talk but he is not stringing together long sentences but he is lucid. Yesterday the speech therapists were with him and gave him some orange juice to drink, that went straight down, he was then given some yoghurt and that went straight down as well and so the result of that little test was positive and Matt can now eat and drink. He had a small bottle of Smoothy last night and ate almost a full plate of hospital gloop along with some jelly. More importantly he did it himself so that was a big result for him and us.

We have no idea when his orientation will settle down but hopefully once again this young man of whom we are so proud will surprise us all and begin to ask questions and walk steadily.

We have told him that he is in hospital after getting a serious knock on his head but we are not going to go into any more detail at the moment.

I'm off to the hospital again in a short while so thanks to all of you who have visited our son, please keep thinking of him and praying for a complete recovery.

Lots of love John, Pauline, Rachael, Helen (birthday girl today) Macca and little Evie-Mae

The support that Matt has received has been outstanding.  There are signs of smiles and occasional words being spoken and all this is hugely encouraging to his family and to all the people who have supported him and followed his progress on the website forum and on the Facebook page, as well as various other websites at clubs in which he has played.  Over 14,500+ views on the web forum have followed Edgy's progress.
